Disabling the windows key [Windows 7]

There may be a time where you need to disable the windows key on your keyboard. Perhaps your a gamer and you keep accidentally hitting it during game play? That’s exactly what warrented my research in to this. Don’t.Either way, I found myself hitting the windows key accidentally during game play, thus sending me to my desktop and minimising my game. Not ideal. After some googling I found a how to on how to disable it. I’ll share it here:

Whilst this method does work, your average user isn’t going to feel comfortable in digging through the registry and manually adding entries. Not to fear, for Dan is here! I followed the above procedure for disabling the key, and exported the reg entry for you.

All you need to do is:

  1. Open zip file
  2. Double click “disable_windowsKey.reg”
  3. Press Yes button
  4. Reboot

If you want to re-enable the windows key simply:

  1. Open zip file
  2. Double click “enable_windowsKey.reg”
  3. Press Yes button
  4. Reboot
